connecticut college athletic center

Spring 2020
For this studio project, I redesigned portions of the Connecticut College Athletic Center, a collection of mismatched and poorly connected buildings. Completed at home during the spring 2020 semester as a senior undergraduate, I utilized SketchUp as the primary mode of representation.

The new building replaces the administration, fitness center and natatorium, while also adding much needed varsity locker rooms, coaches offices, and support spaces. Additionally, it improves functionality and connection between the existing field house, hockey arena, and track and field. Situated along the Thames River, the new design takes advantage of the expansive views provided by the unique hillside site.

Because of the steep terrain sloping away from the center’s main entrance, a “spine” hallway was situated to connect the buildings with stairs strategically placed for each venue. The swimming pool fits perfectly into the hillside with the deep end at the lowest elevation, minimizing the need for excavation.
